The majority of Germany’s cultural memorial sites is dedicated to commemorating historic figures of national prominence. These include musicians, writers, fine artists, scholars, explorers and inventors.
The 22 cultural institutions whose partnership began with their induction to the ​“Blue Book”, are all regarded as nationally significant cultural institutions, or cultural beacons. Most are located in smaller towns in the eastern German states and represent the birthplaces, birth houses or former residences of outstanding personalities. Aside from prominent museums, literature and music archives of national renown are also represented.
